First, watch this awesomely hilarious version of Metallica's Battery.
YouTube - Van Canto - Battery (Metallica Cover)
Now, pull yourselves together and help me figure out what to do. Somehow my headlights were left on in my car and my battery died. I jumped it, ran it for awhile, turned it off and started it again, it seemed ok. Well this morning it's totally dead again. So.....
Do I get the OEM replacement at the dealer for $104 or do I get an aftermarket on from Advance Auto. They don't sell a direct replacement at auto stores so I need help. Has anyone replaced their batter with an aftermarket one? If so, which one? Thanks.

you might just want to start by adding water to your current battery

/\ does that even apply to ours? And, why does one of those articles say we SHOULDN'T be topping off batteries...LoL
first - have a store test the battery to see if it's even salvageable...once a cell (or cells) drain and die, that's usually it and you're headed off to find a replacement.
I haven't had to replace mine yet - but past vehicles have been subjected to the Wal Mart specials w/no questions asked replacements. Hard to say what I'd do with mine, until I actually have to do it. I've heard people swap Optima's in, they're pricey though.
Honestly, I think it comes down to value though - you're not doing anything with that car that you need super-duper battery power, so just shop around Sears/Pep Boys, etc and pick up the best bang for your buck.

Apparently our batteries are open (hence the hose going into the battery) but in all the research I've done I haven't heard anything about needing to fill it with water. What a pain in the ass that would be. If so, that's all the more reason to go with an aftermarket sealed battery. I think I will yank it out and take it down to Advance Auto and see what they say. Thanks for the suggestions.
Also, I believe I should be a moderator of the Problems & Troubleshooting forum cause I'm pretty much the only mf-er posting new threads in here. I got lotz of probemz. :freak:
Edit: I found the ACDelco battery that's in my car. 2007 Redline ACDelco Battery (http://parts-catalog.acdelco.com/b2c/catalog_search.php)
It says the battery is vented to outside of vehicle.

wow y'all must have a way diff setup than the 2.2 - i don't recall any "vents" or "tubes" going to/from the battery in my ion.
I was going to put an optima yellow top in my 2.2 back when. then i did some reading and supposedly one of the reasons they put the battery in the trunk on the ion was for weight distribution. Optimas are known for being a light battery - used by guys to do weight reduction. So, it stands to reason that putting a lighter battery in the rear of the car would throw off the distribution they were shooting for.
Likewise, if you could get the car weighed and find out where you're sitting, you could maybe put a heavier battery in to even it out, or try to find one the same weight.
this, of course, is all if you actually care about the distrib (handling) of your car - autoX'ers take notice :)
I'm not sure how relevent filling w/ water is anymore, hence the reason i sent some links along - thought it'd make for good reading.

It's vented to the outside, but still a sealed battery. I doubt you can do any maintenance to it. I've bought an aftermarket for other cars but not this one. I actually like the duralast battery that AutoZone(O'Reiley's) sells. It's a top rated battery (over Sears Die Hard) and they should be able to provide a direct replacement battery for you.

I looked at Autozone's website and they don't offer any batteries as a direct replacement when I put in my vehicle info. As long as it has the same specs or better as the stock battery and it fits in the trunk I'm thinking I could put pretty much any battery in.
I'll find out today when I yank it out and take it down to Advance Auto or Autozone.

Yah, it's weird how their site does that. Go in and they will get the size code off the stock battery and they can get one in the same series. Just make sure it has the correct post style and position. You should be good to go from there.

So I took the battery in to Advance. The test failed. I picked up an Autocraft Titanium battery that was the same size and had the same terminal positions as the stock one. On top of that it has 900+ CCA as opposed to the stock one which was 600CCA. It was a 782 model and the Advance item number is 2040441 for anyone that may need that info in the future.
While replacing my battery I noticed an RCA connection had come loose from my amp. I hadn't even noticed a sound difference. After I got it hooked up though I sure noticed a difference. Only one of my 10" subs had been getting any juice. LOL
