Mike I was wondering what you recommend for a budget component system for the redline. I don't know if you have a non-mainstream brand that I never heard of. or what brand you prefer. I can find out my HU's rms and peak if you need that. thanks mike.

Sup meng....

I make a component system. Otherwise, there are not many of real value out there. The problem is is components do not start sounding good until you get over the $200/set mark... There are many 6.5" coaxials that are very good.

Look at these... They may just surprise you. Vifa makes about 80% of the mainstream drivers you see in high end car/home audio... Audax is a french company in which their tweeters are known for a crisp clean sparkle in the 12-15K area... I use them a lot in home audio and their TO09 is one of my favs.

wow that's a good price I was thinking I would have to go close to $100 for the two. will they do good in the 22w rms range? would a tweeter in the sail panel be worth it with these? I might go with all four for this price. and what is a to09?

with 4 speakers I need another $22 bucks to make it an even 100 and get free shipping. so what else I need?

already have a 1000rms lol.........

I bet you don't.... You and I need to have a lengthy conversation about power, because like most others, The assumption is "the more the merrier", and RMS is king. RMS does not mean much, that just means you have 1000W +/- 300ish watts at your disposal. That does not even make for a dynamic range of 1dB. Scary, huh? Also, at what frequency, power factor, and topography is your amp running at.. D? D is garbage and 1000W of crap is still crap. You can do more, and have more power with a 200W a/b, or even class T than D.

It makes me angry because its all a numbers game, and no one number tells you how much acoustic power you have at the end of the day. I do more with my DJ system running a total power of 1,200Wrms with 6dB dynamic overhead (if you want to do the math, every 3dB, considered to be a noticeable volume difference, takes double the power, so yes my system has 3,600Wrms reserved at all times for dynamic peaks, hence my amps are fused at 15A each) running through a system that averages 101dB efficient from 40Hz-22Khz than you will hear with 2-3 times the size and power. Really, I run dual 10" subs that sound like a quad of 15's. Just ask Dave, he has heard it in all of its glory. All of this power and overhead allows me to play for a crowd of 250-300 averaging 100-105dB on the dance floor from 40Hz-22Khz with less than 1% THD.

That is just a small example, and a very brief summary of all that goes into system design. So, we need to talk.

The short answer: Those will be fine with the power you have... Don't let the price fool you. Those speakers are spectacular. Don't sweat the tweeters yet, see the difference these make, I think you will be shocked. If you feel you have too much bass, turn your subs down to match everything else. You only get one set of ears man. Don't forget that. That is what deep and accurate (hard to design and implement) will always be better than loud (1/2" plywood box and big SpeaKeZ.):werd:

There is my audio spewing for one day.

Not looking for anything groundbreaking just a little more over the stock lol..although I think it may get addicting for more highs and lows..hehe.

I was told my amp was capable of over 1000rms I dont know what frequency it was measured or what the distortion was or anything to that matter. all I know is it has chewed through 8 subs all claiming at least 500 rms some were blown 2 at a time. lol its a very power hungry amp. with where I have it at a less than a quarter turn the low notes make all lights dim at night. I would deff like to get mike to take a look at my system maybe wire it a little different so its not such a big load. and test to see what my amp really puts out. lol

I think I will get those speakers when i get payed so I don't miss the sale. Thanks mike!

Like Mikey said....it's about clean power. If your 1000 watts is dirty and improperly regulated/filtered, it's no wonder why you roasted speakers.

That's a loaded one......

To run a 10 for extra kick?

1. Do you have it yet?
2. Ported, bandpass, or sealed enclosure?
3. What's the rated efficiency?
4. RMS handling/max handling
5. X-max (if stated on paperwork with sub)
6. Resonant Frequency (Fs) of the sub (if stated.

Then we can talk amps.

You have the sub, and enough power... I am impressed Rockford was willing to throw that much info out there. By "sub specs" I have seen, it is a run-of-the-mill x-max monster. Translation: Loud. To get that thing to play deep, you have to go ported and would likely have to have a 3 cube box with a huge port to flatten the response as given in the manual. Remember... Loud, deep, and small....You can only have two of them....

Sealed will give you the loud and small. The sacrifice is you need a shitload of power to get it there... Which lucky you seem to have. So it CAN work... You definitely need a cap on that amp. It is borderline dangerous to run it without one.

To keep it short. It was not short money, but what you have is pretty darn good! :werd: If we can get it configured right, it will be even better. Equipment is only 1/2 the game... Its setup that can make or break the sound.

So audio day at my house... I am thinking mid-July sometime?

by cap do you mean a capacitor. I cant turn it up with the headlights on it dims bad. but I only have the amp's gain at just about a quarter turn. will you be heading out to the meet we have scheduled for the 28th? if not I will deff head out to your house when you set a date.

now that you mention the "dangerous" part the cavalier I had the amp in before developed some electrical problems after about 30,000 miles of hammering.

Mine was an old skool brand. I haven't run a sound system in a car in awhile. I believe it was Lightning Audio. They won't work if wired incorrectly, but if done right, you will note a clear improvement!

Nope. When installed, it charges nearly instantaneously. I know you need to use a resistor when either charging it or discharging it. I can't remember which.

The new way of a CAP is a Kinetic battery.

The new way of a CAP is a Kinetic battery.

Or a supercapactor!!!!

Capt never get ful, they charg over a time constant and usually are aout 70% full after 1 tau, or time constant... The time constant is derived from the current drop across some resistave source ( In this cace I believe there is none due to the high instantanious current capeability of a car battery (non- deep cycle.)

WHat's most important to know is that a capacitoe "looks" like a short circuit when first plugged in.. As it charges, it looks more like a break (high resistance) in the line. Remembercurrent flown when there is a potential for it to flow. When a cap is fully charged, there is no potential (max voltage), and when fully discharged, there is full potential (no voltage).

Caps 101 complete.

Tranced... I though the depth would fit! sorry about that. The spacer should not be a problem. Let me know if you ned a hand.

Nice job on the install... It is kind of insane just how good they are, huh? They are at least as good as a $150/pr coaxials. I would put my audio life in Vifa's hands. I may need to get some before they are gone... Did I mention they are water resistant too? , They are pretty heavy duty and basically are a buy-out from a "famous maker" (cough: boston acoustics :cough) back-yard rock speakers....

As for a cap... 1-1.5 Farad is fine. No need for overkill. If you used one before and it did not work, it was not hooked up correctly. I remember when I was running 2x15's (when I was young and dumb) and I could actually stall my car from the draw on the amp. I put a cap in and the lights barely even dimmed. And that was over 10 years ago! Not to mention a cap will supply constant voltage to your system making it MUCH more stable. Tip of the day... If you can, run your head unit off the cap as well!

I want to do a system in my car now.... I am starting to get the itch.... :hungry::hungry:

No obscure links this time... BUT since a car cap is acting as nothing more than a constant voltage, current reservoir, any cap will do. It does not have to be expensive. ESR and all that stuff really does not matter all that much. Mainly since its on a sub and HF noise will not be heard anyway. So if you find cheap, go for it.

If this was going on an amp for mids/high it would be a bit different.

Maybe I will have my next project done by then. I am starting it today... :browsmiley:

Oh, I saw a silver RL today driving on 95S. The thing looked like it was just taken off the lot. There was some old guy driving it! It had plates n' all so I do not think it was from a dealer, or being transported... It was sexy. :boink:
