RLF was cool because along with all the bullshitting that was there, there was also lots of good techie stuff too which is one of the big reasons I am so against them banning the fuck outta the guys who have the time and have the ability to say "Hey I did this and it sucked" or "I did this and look what I came up with and if you'd like I can make the same shit for you" Like copper tops subframe brace-I'd been trying to carve out the time to do one of my own-then he comes along with almost the exact design I was goig to do and offered to make one for me. I've done the costing and he's like Jason-he's making nil on the product. Banning things like that, hurts us in the end. I hope ekool chokes on his money.

That's ridiculous. I knew that he pulled in some serious money from SRTforums alone, but didn't know it was that much. I found out a couple of his other big ones as well. I series forums for lexus, the 3000gt/stealth forums. Even the Titan forums have more members that RLF does. No wonder he drives the CTS-V. Who would have thought forums could be so profitable.

I guess it is about being in things for the $$$. If you care about what and why you are doing something... Then you will fail..

But if you are a cold, selfish, son of a bitch.. you will make money hand over fist while outwardly fucking the people lured in for the promise of info/friendship, and legitimate interest. But then you will fall on your face when a rebellion occurs. As it does in EVERY scenario, everywhere.

If one is in it for the long haul, and slowly builds the army in a firm, but fair way. You will have loyal followers forever.

I do not think anything in life is free, and I agree that people helping a cause should make supporting money for themselves, but at what point does the balance of making money outweigh turning people off?

That is one of the reasons I switched hobbies... You want to talk about a shitty place that makes money hand-over-fist, yet gives you almost no access unless you pay AND you have to be with the "in" crowd... Look at www.audioasylum.com.

I can be your best friend, or worst enemy, but my fuse is awfully long and it takes an awful lot to ignite the Spartan army (lol).

That being said if I can ever help here in any way, let me know. As far as donations go, I need to stick it out longer to get the ebb and flow of the place (made the mistake of jumping in too fast with audio asylum), but my time will always be free if it is needed. So far, you guys do rock!

This place runs on a different model. One that, unfortunately, isn't quite so profitable.

But I don't believe that a vendor is supporting the community by giving me money every month. I believe that a vendor is supporting the community by providing quality products, quality services, and at fair prices.

I'm still in the process of fleshing out an iron clad "Supporting Vendor Agreement" but the gist of it is that I'd like supporting members to adhere to a schedule of providing group buys, writing how-to's, running contests, beta testers, etc.

Time will tell if it's profitable or not. Brandon will figure out how to make all the various features work. I'll figure out how to pay for it all. And the vendors will do what they do best: Present us w/ more and better ways to piss off our significant others by spending more time/money on our cars.

As long as the members do their part by showing up and using the site, I'll consider this little venture a success.
