First how to do.. Hope its good enough. Thanks.
Purchased Items Needed:
Compass/Temp Mirror ( mine is from a 2006 ion 3 taken out of a salvage yard)
Ambient Temperature Sensor ( Part # 25775833 )
Sensor Harness ( Not sure of the part number as I used one from a harness laying around. )
ATM Add-a-circuit Fuse Tap ( purchased at Canadian Tire/Princess Auto. Most electronic stores sell them )
Tools Needed:
Wire Stripper
Crimper
Heat Shrink
torx's
heat gun
1 )First I wired my harness making sure that I have all the correct wiring done, to make things easy I colour matched the wires from the oem harness that plugs into the back of the mirror. I used factory gm wiring harnesses that I had laying around at my dealer. These are the wires that are connected to the mirror harness:
Yellow - 12v Power
Green/Black - Ambient Temp Sensor
Black/Grey - Low reference (aka ground) ambient sensor
solid green - Lamp backlight ( wire this to the yellow 12v wire ) the 12v yellow will power the backlight display
Solid Black - Mirror Ground

2 )After I wired the harness I then began to do the removal of the original plain rearview mirror that came with my RL. Very easy. This requires a Torx bit. Once the screw has been removed it will just slide off ( pull in the direction towards the headliner )

3 )Remove your A-pillar, if you have a factory a-pillar there is one bolt that will need to be removed. I have a dual pod A-pillar that does not require any bolts to be removed, Its a bit tricky to get the pillar off. There are retainers that pop into the frame of the car, so you will need to pull on the plastic A-pillar until the clips pop out. Once you have it lose sitting there you will need to slide the pillar upwards towards the headliner for it to slide out of the dash.

4 )Now the wiring… I thought this would be difficult because I really did not want to drop my headliner down to put the wiring in it. So I didn't! Where the headliner meets the windshield in the middle of the car just above the rearview mirror there is a factory notch cut out, This made it easy to put the wiring in. I held the wiring at that notch and started to tuck it into the top of the headliner across to the drivers pillar that was removed. Once the wire was all tucked in you can easily slide the harness back and forth for however much you need.

5 )I ran the harness down the inside of my pillar with the wiring and suction hose for my boost gauge and through the top left corner of the dash. In that corner there should be a factory piece of foam just sitting there to pad the pillar. Pull this out and you should see a hole that leads to the under/back side of the dash beneath the steering column and foot pedal area. To make this easy I had my drop light laying on the floor and pushed the harness through the hole, Push your drivers seat as far back as it will go and lay on your back with your head up around your pedals. You should clearly be able to see the harness you pushed through.

6 )So there is a big rubber grommet that is behind your brake pedal that goes through the firewall, I have my boost suction tube running through there already. I took my harness ( only the black/green and black/grey wire because these are for your ambient temperature sensor ) and taped them to a thin rod so that I could push it through the rubber grommet. ( if you do not have any holes through this yet you will need to make one. I punctured the hole with a very thin screw driver on a left angle away from the wire that is already there, once the hole was made I sliced it a little larger to allow my tubing just to fit. )

7 )I pushed about a foot of the harness and rod through, standing next to your left fender by your strut mount there is a big enough gap for you to stick your arm through to find the harness/rod that you pushed through the fire wall. It is very easy to find. Then pull the harness out far enough that it reaches your front left headlight. Just leave it there for now.

8 )Everything you have done so far is the hardest part, now to give the harness power. I used a ATM Add - A - Circuit fuse tap because they are safe and simple to use. Pull off the lower panel by your right foot in the drivers area right below the dash and you will find the compartment fuse box. Now that you have your black/green and black/grey running through the fire wall that leaves you with a Black ground wire and a yellow power wire. Ground the black wire to wherever you please.. Just make sure it is on bare metal. Not painted. Connect your add-a-circuit fuse tap to the yellow power wire. I selected the radio fuse out of the fuse box, the reason being is because a lot of the other fuses have constant power and will leave the rearview mirror powered on even when the car is turned off. The radio fuse stays powered on when the car is turned off until the door is opened and it automatically turns off after 30 minutes I believe it is. So this is a safe choice. Do not plug this into the fuse box yet until the ambient sensor is wired.

9 )how the add-a-circuit works: remove the radio fuse and plug it into the _ slot, this will be used to power the original radio fuse and the other slot is for your accessory circuit ( in this case rearview mirror ) Put a 10amp mini in this slot. This is plenty for the mirror. Remember that the ATM add-a-circuit is capable up to 10amps so do not choose a fuse that is higher than this.
10 )Alright time to wire the Ambient temperature sensor with the two wires that you ran through the firewall and to the front of the car. I placed the sensor in behind my left headlight. I first removed my left headlight which is very simple and Im sure everyone knows how to do. There are two pins that hold it in place, remove them and the headlight will lift out, disconnect the harnesses to the bulbs and you can completely remove the headlight. I chose to attach the sensor on the side of the harness that goes to the horn/ etc on the right side of the aluminium rebar. Since I bought the sensor without the mounting bracket ( because it was like 10$ cheaper ) I used a zip-tie to strap it in place. connect the wires to the ambient sensor harness, In my case it was easy because I colour coded the wires. green/black to green/black etc. The sensor harness is now wired and can be plugged into the sensor. Put the headlamp back in.

11 )Now attach your temp/compass rearview mirror to the metal bracket that is mounted in the windshield by sliding it onto it. Use the screw that you removed from the original mirror to mount it in place. Plug the harness into the back of the mirror and now you can plug in your fuse tap / power to the fuse box and place the lower cowling back.

12 )Thats er.. The mirror has power, the temperature should be displayed and you should have a compass reading. Depending on which rearview mirror you want to put in mine came with a compass and since it was removed from a 2006 Ion 3 in my province it was already calibrated for the correct area. I am area zone 13. My compass and temp work perfect.

13 )If the mirror is from somewheres else you may have to calibrate it which is very simple. You will need to find out which area # you are in. once you have this you need to put in into the mirror by holding the comp button for a few seconds. choose the area number and let it change. After that hold the comp button in for 10 seconds it will say CAL meaning to calibrate. Drive your car in a circle at a speed less than 8mph. Once calibrated it will pop up with the correct compass heading.
