So there's lots of folks who want to go Road Racing or Auto-Xing. It's a whole lot of fun to go bend up some twisties, but it's a bit more involved than just sawing the steering wheel to the left and right and mashing the go pedal to the floor.
First things first:
BE SAFE! Forego all the mods and flashy stuff in the interest of safety. Even if your particualr class, sanctioning body, or club doesn't require a helmet-get one any way. After your first "unfortunate incident" and your brains leaking on to the racing surface, you'll wish you had. Next up should be a harness. Schroth makes some really good harnesses that you can remove for daily driving and still keep you strapped into your seat rather well. You can get into one of these for around $150.00 and it's money well spent. A word of caution here. Some folks are tempted to hop on ebay and look for a "deal". While there is a plethora of deals on ebay-helmets and harnesses ARE NOT ONE OF THOSE GREAT DEALS. Never, under any circumstances buy a piece of safety equipment used. You have no idea of its use history. If you're THAT short on cash, you may wanna reconsider your hobby. A seller can tell you that it's never been in an accident, but you do not know that to be the gospel truth. Harnesses stretch when involved in an accident as well, they also weaken with exposure to UV light. Just don't go there!

So at this point you've got your safety stuff all picked out and purchased so now what?

Stay tuned-more to follow!

It's good for the street and Auto X's that don't require a harness. It keeps you planted in your seat and still allows upper body movement, but if you're going to really push the car, get a harness-it's worth the money and you can remove it if you need to. I've gotten some weird looks driving a Saturn with a harness on while rollin down the e-way.

Yep
Sp00n did a good how to on the install over on RLF with pics. But yes it fits, the only thing you have to mod is the brackets that come with the harness-the holes are just a teeny tiny bit small.

That's OK, they are DOT approved. Go to soloracer.com and look under the harness belts link-then look at the schroth harness ralleye 4

I like it alot.

It's quite effective at holding you into the seat. It does have a few 'comfort' issues, but I expect that with something like it.

I never take it out. The bolts are a pain to get to, if you had to do it over and over again, and it sorta comes apart in the car and can be tucked away. The ring that I attached to the left lapbelt needs to be honed out about .001" to get it to fit right.

Takes about 5 seconds to drop it into a position that is 95% out of the way. and even without unhooking anything it tucks out of the way completely. Depending on your body type, you might feel a little uncomfortable with it just tucked out of the way, but not me.

Only interferes with the stock belts if you don't tuck it out of the way 'correctly' when you're done racing. If not, the first time you try and put the seatbelt on you'll find that the harness is across part of the shoulder belt, but would still go on easily for a 'cop check' situation.

Hasn't done anything the spots where it rubs on the seats at all, nor has it taken any wear damage yet. I've only used it like 4-5 races now though.

All in all, a big thumbs up. Mind you, I have nothing to compare it to, in terms of personal experience, but I think it works well, doesn't do anything but help me drive, and if I had to buy another harness, it would be this one, unless someone can show me a MAJOR reason to get a different one.

Damn, that's pretty neat. You'da thunk that they coulda made the back harness to reach the LATCH system instead of to the bolts. Either the rear deck tethers or the LATCH loops between the seat cushions and fasten them with caribeeners (spelling) or something easy to remove post race but will remain in place during. Is it legal to daily drive with them on? If a cop pulled me over and saw me wearing that, would that be the end of it?

Clean yuor car foo!

They carry a DOT certification for highway use.
