Just reminding everyone to swap back to 50/50 dexcool if y'all ran straight water like I did over the summer. It's starting to get cool outside and this will be a bad mistake if y'all forget....

Too damn hot down here to go straight water. Must use the mix all year here. Goes from Satan's layer to popsicle maintenance in about a 4 week span of time.

The heat is the exact reason for pure water. Dexcool contains oil which cannot dissipate heat as well as pure water. However, Dexcool will not freeze and will not corrode engine parts. I run pure distilled in the intercooler for the summer but still 50/50 dex in the engine. I noticed about a 10 degree difference in cruising IAT2's just from water.

Really? Hmmmm..... S/C cars are still a bit of a new animal for me.

RLinbr, have you tried a water wetter mix? It's supposed to have even better heat transfer rates than pure water.
On a semi-related note, I found out why my car was throwing a code... it was damp and rainy this morning, and sure enough, as soon as I drove through some small puddles, the CEL came on. Once it dried up, the code reset itself.
Any thoughts on this? You ever seen anything like that?

Wet connector at ECM??? A little water in intake??? I think the manual says that the light will come on if the ECM connectors get wet.

yes, the one time mrs p took my car through an auto car wash I had a code for a few days.

I did use some Royal Purple additive called Purple Ice. It eventually is consumed so you have to remember to add it every few months. I have already noticed a 5 degree increase in temps when just cruising now that the dexcool is back in.
On to your question, I would think water has to be getting on a sensor somehow. You have a K&N, right? I can't remember.

I have always heard that straight water has very poor heat transfer properties, I have never heard anyone say that it was better than any coolant type.
Do you have a link or source where I can do a bit more research on that comment regarding dex-cool?

Another new friendly reminder:
It's time to dump the dexcool and run water again. It's getting hot over here, and it sure as hell will not freeze anymore in the south.
Time to say hello to lower IAT2's!!

The best setup is straigh water with a little additive, like Water Wetter or similar. Works much better than any coolant or mix.

I think your the only person who says, yeah, winter is over, time for lower IAT2's. Damn bayou people and your bass ackwards logic. YAY for heat and humidity!1 :bananahump:

^^^^HAHA. It's because even in winter we can hit 80 with 75% humidity. The problem is that 2 days later it could freeze. Not to the point where we get that "snow" stuff, but enough to crack a FMIC.

c'mon now... i had FMIC on the ion and went thru a REAL winter w/ no cracks.... but you're probably talking an air->water IC, aren't ya :p
is there any reason why the LSJ's can't swap out air->water for air->air?

Did you say freeze?!?! :killtard:
haha, I understand. just again pointing out that the rest of us have winter, while you have... "It might get close to freezing outside. But only if its dark, the wind is blowing, its a 9/32 moon of a full moon, and a my 3rd cousin Bo's knee was hurting that day, even then, it might not get to freezing"

That is what happens when the police pull their guns and tell you to stop moving. They just use different terms, that's all.

you would think so, but actually we're still getting shafted by a lot of u.s. companies, I bought a new polaris snowmobile this year for 14,300 canadian, they sell for abou 10,200 u.s. in the states. that was when our dollar was about .02 stronger.......polaris definately capitalized on that deal

Its cause your money looks like monopoly money. $1 == Red, $5 == Orange and so on... Speaking of which, anyone seen the new five dollar bill with purple on it?!?! My gf got one from the bank the other day.

Was doing some searching on RLF and found these in an old post from WopOnTour. Most of you probably already know how to do these things but I'm betting there are some people (aka me) that don't.

I'm sure I'm going to regret this, but here's my technique. So far, I have done this 4 times and had the entire system bled completly in under 20 minutes.
1) I drain the system.
2) I fill the system
3) I have a hose attached to a funnel that I put over the I/C reservoir and I blow as hard as I can into the hose until I run out of breath.
4) I fill the neck and do the hose thing again
5) I do this 3 or 4 times until the level won't drop anymore and I stop.
6) Lather, rinse, repeat
