Hey Yall'
I have been doing audio for 15 years now and have tinkered with going into business now and again because it flat out makes me angry with what product live in the consumer world. Dave (Mantiskingfu) heard some of my handy work and decided to have me design him a sub that would get his trunk back, not break the bank, and sound good. I think we were both a little surprised by what happened next.

The link below takes you to a "the other guys" where Dave wrote up the review. See for details & pics.

Basically it is a dual 8" box, that takes VERY little power to drive saving your cars electrical system, and the wallet by requiring only a small amp. And has useable (brain shaking) output to 25Hz. Because it is designed for the general parameters of the ion/balt, the acoustics of the cars are use to boost output and give you sound that can easily take out moderately priced dual 12" boxes. This also helps reduce and almost eliminate trunk rattle. Yet you have 3/4" of your trunk AND The pass-through still available.

I need to get 10 people together for these to make them affordable, and I already have 2 interested, so it's off to a great start.

The prices are :$325 pick-up locally (I will drive to meet as well 1 hour or so) or $360 shipped. Let me know if there is any interest. I am sure Dave will not mind meeting up to demo as well!

So after almost three years with this big boy taking up my trunk...

I was finally able to find some one local who knew a thing or two about the workings of audio systems. He goes by the name Mikeyredline around here, and this guy knows his shit. After talking to him, and giving him an idea of what I wanted, he built me a custom sub enclosure. Taking into consideration all of the little variables the RL has in the trunk, the shapes, the depths, and all the other mumbo jumbo technical stuff one must take into consideration, that I wouldn't know one thing about. He built me a sub box that not only works, but was made specifically for the RL's needs.

I would never have thought 2 little 8" subs could shake my car the way it does. The sound is so crisp and clean. You can hear every base line, every drum beat, and nothing is muddy or sounds distorted, and best of all though it shakes my car, because it was built for the RL needs there is none of that ugly rattling noise that you hear with the "riced out cars".

One of the things I asked for when I asked him to make this for me was my trunk space. I wanted a system that would be practical, but gave some good sound. This does it all!!!!!

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m134/mantiskungfu728/smalla.jpg

I was in shock, when I first laid my eyes on it. I didn't for the life of me think that something that small was going to sound better than 2 12" subs I had. Luckily I was very wrong. This thing hits harder, louder, and cleaner than my other one, and I am very happy with the end product. The craftmanshit of the box itself was so much better than what I had. It was some nice thick wood, and not some cheap particle board or whatever the other shops use.

So I finally have my truck back, and my music is cleaner than ever. I just wanted to give a personal thank you to Mikeyredline, for making me this custom sub piece, it was well worth the money I spent, and wish I had found him before I went to buy my ugly behemoth of a sub box...

Thanks again Mike....

That's really nice looking, and I would consider myself interested in a setup (shipped of course). My only thing is that I want to keep the stock head unit. But, I'm not too sure how the stock head unit is in this car. Is there a way to run subs using the this unit? Or does it require aftermarket?

Let me say this... It made my stock AAS sound like I just went out and put 1K into all the speakers. It is really good, It will work with your stock head unit so there is no problem there...

Update your signature! lol.. Yeah, it sounded great, I am going to run mine off my factory as well w/o the AAS. Remember, it was built FOR the car, not around it so it works great with aftermarket deck and factory with line converters.

Just an Updated list... Doing great so far!

325 bucks for just the box, or does that include the speakers and the amp.

I am willing to meet up half way if any one wants to hear what the system sounds like. I never really gave an official yes to Mikes statement, but I am willing to do so. Just wanted to throw that in there...

WOAH! I am no theif!!! I woudl laugh myself out of the forum is I were charging $325 for some wood and carpet. That is all inclusive..WITH the HQ binding posts that accepy up to 8AWG wire, and 14AWG OFC time correct wire used internally.

No, No amp inluded. Hell the group buy would have to be for 100 to get the price that cheap with a good amp lol!

Ok.

I'm actually starting to waffle over this. I'm gaining a lot of quality sound by changing...but its a lot of money to buy a new amp and sub/box instead of just buying a box.

I think the amp you have will work fine. I orignally mentioned that. I am sorry if things do not work out :(

Another way at looking at it is... How much can you sell the old ones for... You sell them for $100 and your only payig $260 for the set up.... Just my $.02... having a trunk is a good thing :bigthumb:

My single 12" box would have the same (within an inch in every direction) dimensions as this. I probably couldn't get $100 for a single 12" sub, either.

Thats what really made me start thinking. I'm not totally leaving the boat yet, but spending $300 (if I sold my sub and used my current amp) on a RL specific setup is harder to justify than $100 on a universal box.

yeah true... for some reason I thought you said you had 2 12"... pay no attention to my last post lol...

So to clarify this includes a box, internal wiring and terminals?

That is what I have understood.

Mikeyredline

That is what I have understood.

Includes:

Box
Subs
Wiring (heavy duty)
Terminals (not cheap springs ot plastic posts)

A complete unit, fully assembled. There is nothing else needed to buy!

Mikeyredline

Hey Y'all...

There seems to be some confusion over what is included in this system. This system includes:

2 subs
cabinet fully carpeted
heavy duty (not cheap plastic springs of plastic screw) terminals
14awg OFC time corrected internal wiring

So it is for a complete system. Not just a box.

The premise is the subs are tuned to that specific box, which is then tuned to the specific acoustics of the bal/ion trunk (they are similar) which then delivers one hell of a whallop in the car.

All "you" need to provide is the amp (HIGHLY RECCOMMED w/ subsonic filter) with a low pass crossover/filter rated 200W or higher.

I just wanted to clarify for eveyone. $325/$360shipped is an awful lot of money for JUST a box.

Having a trunk is a GREAT thing. That's why back in late 04 when I got the car I had these built.

Where were you years ago with this tiny box?? I would have jumped on this back then. I probably got raped on the price of these, but when I had them built, it was the cheapest place in my area because I knew the owner. Hell, some audio shops didn't even want to try and build something, just sell me something premade and gigantic.

I have seen your setup on RLF. It is definately a nice alternitave to the monster boxes, I bet it sounds great too!

I wish you were around I only have 2 commits so far:ugh:, and I need 10. That's a long way off. I just wish people cousl hear this thing! They would be amazed when you tune the speakers to the box to the trunk then to the car what 2 8"-ers can do.

LOL you should have seen stelthredline's (Matt) reaction when he herd it... It was priceless.

BTW for the 2 commits, I may be able to work it out to keep that price and sell them to you anyway. I just will be doing the work for free :(... But Hopefully I will get my name out there and all will be well!

Hard to sell sound.
