So earlier today I mention to Raineman that my car is starting to pull slightly to the right. I also started to hear a slight popping sound in the front right. Lil photo and I are out getting dinner and the popping is more frequent so I figure Ill check it out on Sat....

I pull in to the driveway and BAM! Sounds like I'm driving on my rim. I stop the car, look around, see nothing...

Get back in, start to pull back in and hear a nasty grinding again and limp forward a few feet to park. I get the jack, start to jack up the right front and can see the problem....the TOP of the Sway bar end link is jammed in to the lower cup of the spring and the bolt from the end link is ON TOP OF THE TIRE! The bolt is gouging in to the tire (thus the grinding sound). Yes....that means that it actually snapped the fucking mount that is attached to the strut!!!

The Sway bar is bent on the right side. In the one pic you can see that if I hold the end link at it's normal place how high it sits.

So now I need help;

a- what is availible for upgraded sway bars (as im convinced that if someone goes with these race end links they need to upgrade the sway bar
b- if i do stay with stock what do they run?
c- how long can i run with a sway bar just hooked up on the left side
d- can i get the broken mount from the strut welded back on or do i have to get an entire new strut?!?
e- what is a new strut or new piece that i can replace cost?

The grommets on the Bwoody end link appear to be damaged, but I'm not touching it until I talk to them. I'm sooooo upset right now.

I know...you play you pay, but right now is a really bad timing. Not that there is a good time for this to happen but now is really bad. Not only am I struggling at work which means I barely have enough to have a decent party and gift for my son and wonder how I'm going to get a gift for my wife and son for Xmas. I really dont give a shit if I get anything but dammit I will not disappoint my family. Sorry to vent, I know most think of me as the jester on the forums but I just needed to vent. Anyone that can answer my above questions I greatly appreciate it.

I didnt resize the pics on purpose so detail could be seen. Sorry

WOW ,man,
I am very sorry to see. Unfortunately I do not think there is much I can do to help either. I think you said it best, you pay to play...

The good news is the damage looks to be somewhat repairable without it costing an arm and leg.

Remember Murphy plays with Redlines too, and if it happned in the midle of summer, that woudl be better timing, and he knows that.

When I flooded my house 2 weeks before x-mas last year causeng 12K worth of damage and sending my insureance premiums through the roof, Just remember this and it sounds cheesy, but it works. You HAVE a wife AND a son, and all the intangable things that go with it. And that is better than any swaybar, redline, or even house anyone can have. I mean really, what's thing going to matter 2 years from now... Probablly isn't...

As far as the job thing, just keep your eyes forward, head straight, and work your ass off. That's all you can do. Remember they NEED a reason to fire you and unemployment costs them a fortune, so do not give tehm the reason.

Good luck man.

very true bro...in the grand scheme of things the redline means very little. Overall I love my car of course but I was mostly upset over what could've happened and would've happened if it popped 5 mins earlier with my son in the front seat.

With work, I'm still going to plug along and work harder

a- what is availible for upgraded sway bars (as im convinced that if someone goes with these race end links they need to upgrade the sway barfor the RL, i'm not aware of any, actually... :(
b- if i do stay with stock what do they run? saturnparts.net has good prices on them. i believe they're about $120 or so. without bushings (which you may or may not need, can't tell)
c- how long can i run with a sway bar just hooked up on the left sidehonestly, from being under the car when i replaced my sway bar w/ an IRL one, i'm not quite sure what it could offer you vs having none on there at all...
I didnt resize the pics on purpose so detail could be seen. Sorry no worries - we automagically resize here :D

well man i hope you get things worked out and that bwood sees this. i'm sure they will as i see one or two of them on here at least a couple times/wk. if you haven't already u may wanna PM one of them.

you can run without the sway bar attached. i just advise against any "high speed cornering" while this is not attached.

You beat me to it. I think I remember hearing some of the guys with older cars used to disconnect them altogether when drag racing at the strip. Something to do with allowing the front suspension to unload better.

First off none of the other beta testers were notified because we thought that Dbryden's was an isolated incident due to the hardware on the strut was installed backwards. Dbryden came to the same conclusion we did when we saw the bolt hitting on the frame and we figured it was making a weak spot on the mounting location. The original beta testing section for these was removed by noremorse from the red site which makes it even harder to hear questions and concerns reguarding these components. We are now issuing a recall on all of the beta testing links please call the shop at 410-676-1042, we will issue each person a set of the older upgaded style of links until we can overcome this obstacle.

Thanks,
Mike

A: To my knowledge... nothing for the front.
B: Unless you can find it on eBay, it's a dealer only part. Check w/ Ozerman (on RLF) for a discount.
C: Indefinitely. You can even remove the entire thing. It'll just handle like ass.
D: You can get it repaired, but most places are going to recommend a new strut (which is also a dealer only part)
E: Ozerman should be able to get you a discount on these, as well.

Uh oh. Dude got canned?

Crazybrew also worked for a Saturn dealer, if memory serves.

Or.... call up your local Saturn dealer, tell the parts manager that you run a website/forum for LSJ enthusiasts, and ask if they'd like to be promoted on our site by offering a 15-20% discount on parts.

That's what Neons.Org did w/ Fenton Dodge, and it was a GREAT relationship for all parties. We ordered almost exclusively from those guys for all things OEM.
