:mofo:
Yup - got a chip in it back when I lived in CA, but quickly had that filled and no problems...driving out to Disney World on Friday and *crack* - on the passenger side, about a foot or so long then, but now stretching a little further...running up and down in a sort of "S".
So, what do they usually run to replace? I think I have coverage through insurance, but I'm not sure I want to go that route if I don't have too...it would be my first claim of any kind. :ack:

Find out if it will make your rate go up, and if it does not have them replace. It is safety equipment

Yah, as long as your rates don't increase, why not use it. That's what you're paying the insurance company for anyway....

I guess I'm assuming the rates WILL go up...but if there's a chance they won't, I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. I hesitate to call them though, b/c the last time I called for "advice" they flagged my record with essentially an "accident" merely for the inquiry, and tried to raise my rates on me the next time around.

They really should only raise your rates if they say it's your fault for the accident and they have to pay for any repairs to either person involved. But a windshield should have no effect on your premiums if you have windshield coverage. If you are paying extra money each month for glass replacement, you're essentially setting money aside for the remote chance you might need to use it for this purpose. So check into it.

I 've already used USAA to replace my windshield for free. It does not raise your premiums. In Florida, windshield replacement insurance with a zero deductable is standard. Hook it up.

I replaced two of my windshields on past cars using USAA. My policy never went up, it actually went down when i renewed. It shouldn't matter what company you use, if you do not make claims very often your rates should not increase. One thing they look at when your policy is up for renewel is how many claims you have made.

A comp claim won't normally raise your rates, even if you're in the backassward state of FL.

Yeah, when my friend with the MS3 had his windshield almost shattered with the 2x4 SafeLite came out and replaced it (and even cleaned up as much glass as they could) for free the next day (he called literally 5 mins after the trucks left with the orders for the day). Works good here for windshield.

This is the only reason I like AZ, its free! No free steaks though, but you get to watch the guy do the job; and then if its small, they just drill it and fill it.

yep, in FL, windshield replacement is for frizee!!! they even come to your house or workplace and do the damn thing. but no you will not get a box of steaks. the state banned the free steak thing cuz people were breaking thier windshields on purpose to get a free box of steaks LOL.
I have had my windshield in the RL replaced twice! thats what i get for driving on I-4 everyday. and last time i asked "hey wheres my box of steaks everybody talks about?" and he told me about them not being allowed to do that anymore. its an interesting process to watch though, and an RL looks really strange with no windshield... i tried to get the guy to let me drive the car around the block with out it, but he didnt think it was as good an idea as i did.
and nope... your insurence will not go up b/c of it.
