View Full Version : 4 Piston Caliper Upgrade

The first kit on the market that allows you to upgrade the stock, single piston floating calipers you have now to a stronger, lighter, custom 4 piston billet set-up. When looking at the stock brake set-up, we found that the stock rotor size is a great size for most street driven cars. However, we knew there was some room for improvement in the system by upgrading the stock single piston caliper with a fixed 4 piston caliper set-up.

We designed this kit with the concept of reducing the unsprung mass of the car and keeping the rotating mass as low as we could. By using the stock size rotors we do not overly bias the front brakes or increase the rotating mass often found with other brake kits. The big caliper upgrade comes with everything you need for the upgrade, 2 custom DDMworks big calipers in your choice of Black or Bright Red Anodized, 2 Caliper mounting brackets, your choice of brake pads and necessary hardware for the installation. You can re-use your stock brake lines, or upgrade to stainless lines for an even firmer pedal feel.

There is also talk of doing a big brake kit in the future. This is first part, these 4 piston caliper will be reused to upgrade to larger sized lighter rotors and allow for a stepped approach to the upgrade. This will allow some much needed style points to be added to your car. With that style comes some key features:

Billet Aluminum housing design (Superior in strength to cast calipers).

Four Bolt, multi-ribbed housing. (Increases rigidity and reduces deflection for improved pedal feel).

Stainless steel pistons. (Retards heat transfer to brake fluid).

High temperature, square cut piston seals. (Controls piston retraction for zero drag).

Internal crossover brake fluid passage. (Eliminates potential crossover tube damage from debris).

Stock Caliper, bracket and pads weight = 14.5 lbs each

DDM Caliper, Bracket and pads weight = 6 lbs each

That saves 8.5 lbs per side in the front = HUGE

I guess that's a good deal...any idea on the dimensions in relation to the stock setup? (I'm planning on throwing a 15" drag wheel setup on and grinding the stockers down a bit to get the clearance - would I need to do the same to these, or are they already small enough?)

Of the 20 sets, do we know how many are spoken for? I'm not sure I can do these by April 15th b/c the clutch is my #1 priority, but maybe a month or two down the road...

damn that's sexy. too bad sp00ner's not over here, i can see his autoX-lovin' ass jumpin on these like NOW.

do you guys know if these fit on the fronts of a non-LSJ? i know some QC's that love autoX and would probably jump on these as well.

I'll have to check on both of these and get back to you.

Not sure if this is a true answer for you but maybe this will help.

Since of course, all 15" wheels are not created equal, it looks like you need a wheel with around 13.5" ID to clear the calipers.

As far as sets I don't have an accurate number but many are spoken for since many were initially offered for Sky and Solstice. We can however up the initial order if needed.

I do not know if they fit the non LSJ's. I checked and anything that has 5 lugs should fit, and it looks like the 4 lug set-ups should fit also, I just need to check on rotor sizes.

y'know. we've got a vendor selling caliper skins now, and you selling new calipers. y'all should get together and offer a skinned option straight out the gate! :rocker:

Subscribed, but I'm assuming the newly purchased Hawk pads I just bought can't be applied to these due to the 4 piston layout vs. the single piston setup I currently have?

Probably not, but he did say that the pkg includes "choice of pads"...

I'll definitely put these on my "list" - but like I said, I have to get my clutch, install, and broken in first...since that will probably take me into race season, I'm gonna need to be looking for my drag wheel setup as well.

Maybe I'll win a major poker tourney or something...LoL

sorry guys, i'm checking on getting the answer for you on the pads....The shop is a little busy right now with shipping out their stage 2 upgrade on the supercharged solstice package.

MGM - have you got your clutch yet? If not, what are you looking for?

i thought c-force was a BIG no-no for the LSJs?

I haven't heard much about the centerforce yet. Actually, nothing. I have the exedy...and I love it.

Knowing about the pad choice would be good. Not like I'd buy a set of the calipers tomorrow.

Pads will not be interchangeable. The calipers are a different size and shape so stock pads or replacements will not work on the larger upgrade.

Good to know. Makes things simple.
