View Full Version : To clutch, or not to clutch...

Well, I'm going to clutch, so that's not REALLY the question...

Question is WHICH clutch to clutch with?

Exedy vs Centerforce

Doc - you're running Exedy...need full report...pedal effort, engagement feel, etc.
...and they have a multi-disc out now...

Anyone running Centerforce, by chance? I'd rather not be ANOTHER clutch test dummy (we all know how I faired with that last time around), but I like the way it's advertised and all...

Let the debate begin...

Not converted here yet. Still just over 11k on the original. If I were to choose between the two, I'd be just as stumped as you. But since it's not me I leave the "being stumped" up to you.

I'm going either Exedy or stock. I haven't decided if it's time to end my track days before blowing something serious up. I still haven't run any juice through the motor though. I'm thinking about getting the Exedy, running the juice, and have a little fun at the track. Then when my warranty runs out in September I'll pull the bottle off and sell it.

Back to your question, I would want to be a test dummy again either.

thanks for that...

undecisiveness is a killer...:freak:

I have about an inch for engagement. Thats from being fully depressed (pushed in) until I let it out and it catches. It works out your thigh. When I get into a stock car I nearly put the clutch into the floor.
I think I have a bad slave cylinder though. Not sure exactly, I need to get in there and check it out. I get a squeal when I let the clutch out upon decel. Its not an all the time event, mainly when its cold. I do have about 20k miles on the setup and this just started to occur.

see - I'm not sure I want to deal with that though, as far as pedal effort...I dunno.

As far as squealing, that could be the Master Cylinder more than the slave, no? Although, if the Master was going, one would think it would squeal in relation to braking as well, since they're on the same system (good thinking GM).

the pedal effort is a pita sometimes...
if you were closer, I'd let you have it for a week.

where are you btw..??

man, that'd be nice...

I'm in Denver now - here to stay for the foreseeable future. (knock on wood) AF has me inactive for about 18 more months, and then I'm a totally free man - until then, I carry on hoping the phone call never comes.

A friend of mine was called a little more than 6 months ago to re-hack his flight physical...enough to cause me to raise an eyebrow, ya know?

Although, still never get any such call myself - good thing they still think I'm living in CA, huh? :orangehat:

No shit ay. That's crazy. I was little worried after I got out in June 01, because of course 9-11 happened a few months later.

Anyway, back on topic. Pick a damned clutch already. Start doing some leg presses now and by the time you get the Exedy installed you're girlish legs should be able to handle it. :blockhead:

I need my MGIB payment to come in, and then I'll go shopping...still need to get in touch with BWoody too - rather give him the business.

Yeah, I guess a clutch could be considered a school related expense in a roundabout way. Can't get to class if you don't have a properly functioning clutch.

You try taking the cyber highway to/from school every day with a POS clutch!

It's called "milking the system"...

Doc, you ever figure out your issues?

Doc
May 21st, 2008, 8:15pm
nope....sometimes it squeals...other times it doesn't...hell if I know.
I'm too cheap to take it in and I sure as hell don't want to take it apart myself.

MGM1979
May 21st, 2008, 9:50pm
well crap, that's no good...how bad's the squeel?

Doc
May 21st, 2008, 9:54pm
its slight...only when I release the clutch....towards the end..or top of the pedal

MGM1979

so with solid mounts and a 3" exhaust, it might be drowned out...?

Hey Doc, is this setup really just one piece? I'm not very smart when it comes to this stuff - I'm used to seeing a pressure plate, the friction disc, and a flywheel...it's all bolted together, doesn't seem like it would work the same based on my elementary educational knowledge of clutch systems
