View Full Version : Recent EI issues

So, pretty consistently lately, I'll be on EI and make a couple posts, and then go to post (or shout) and the site just locks up...if I open a new tab in the same IE7 window, the site won't load up.
If I close the window altogether, and open a new one up, it'll load right up...keep in mind, I'm mostly on at work, and this doesn't happen with any other sites/forums I frequent.
any ideas?

I've had the same issues several times.
It happens more in the casino.

yes, casino is consistently inconsistently stable (?)
but this has been happening even BEFORE the casino was even added.

i believe the term you were looking for is consistently unstable.
Not sure what to tell you guys. next time just keep track of your last 2 or 3 clicks and give me those steps... if i can't reproduce it i can't fix it.

I don't so for me. I think it was only after the Casino addition. But I had surgery on Friday so I didn't post from Thurs until Monday.

Funky, love your sig pic!
Mine just did it. It locks up when I post quick replies. I have to refresh or shut out of IE altogether to get it un-hung up.

Sometimes it takes awhile to load for me.
I've been getting odd errors lately with IE7...I think its IE7 pooping out.

that is usually an issue w/ connections. and it's not "locking up" - if you click "post quick reply" again (and again if it doesn't do it w/in a second or two) then it'll eventually go through. the message is getting lost on its way to the servers.
Cat Ion

I've tried that. Every button on the screen becomes useless. The little swirly thing that pops on next to the "post quick reply" button stops spinning. So I copy the text I wrote/close IE/re-open and redirect/then paste it and try again. Works after that. But it does this after changing screens a few times on EI.com. I've never had this problem on any other website I go to. I get some slow performance out of my carrier at home when I access webmail, but it always goes through. I also have IE 6 and XP SP3 on my computer.
It actually hung up on me again while making this post!

site's being weird...crashed twice on me in last 2 minutes...and I don't mean locked up.
2nd time, when I came back, saw this in the shoutbox:
Shoutbox Active Users: 0
Shoutbox Notice:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare convert_url_to_bbcode_callback_auto_replace_title() (previously declared in /home/.satai/bc3tech/eatoninside.com/includes/functions_newpost.php(175) : eval()'d code:3) in /home/.satai/bc3tech/eatoninside.com/includes/functions_newpost.php(175) : eval()'d code on line 3
1st time there was a "fatal error" on the whole screen, but forgot to copy it.

The site has become almost unusable for me lately. It constantly locks up. The only cure is to close out Internet Explorer and bring the site back up. Today, I brought up EI, went to the MC thread, tried to do a quick reply, and it froze. This happens on my work and home computers. Wouldn't be as big a deal if I hadn't donated to the site twice. Any ideas?

^^^Same here. I've been using quick reply and typing as fast as possible to remedy. Still annoying though. Maybe it's 3kool's floppy tits threads.

I just had some really wierd message pop up for a few minutes. It wouldn't let me load the page.
Uh, I don't have the message anymore though. Sorry, work needed the cut and paste more than EI.

ok, so I made this thread on 5/16...when did we launch the casino? I know I had put up with it for at least a couple weeks prior to posting - can't we re-trace our steps to see what might have changed around the end of April to cause these issues?
I agree - it's getting more and more annoying...and either it's getting worse, or my tolerance for it is getting less.
Maybe the database is just getting too big - can we archive some shit? Starting with some of the older floppy tits posts?

the "freezing" you guys are experiencing is a tolerance of your connection and ei.com's connection for AJAX requests. i've disabled a large amount of them.

here's a question...how many of us are using IE vs FireFox - could it be something with the "connections" within the browsers?
I ask, b/c while EI does have some issues at my home (on FireFox), it's MUCH more prominent at work with IE7...

I run only IE. I think the verison at my house is the newest one.
At work, these computers are from the 40's. We are running Windows 95 so no telling what version this is.....

Mine does exactly the same. IE6 on a 6 month old core 2 duo computer. Even as I write this one, I had to re-enter to load this in. Now I'm in Korea, so I just put up with it thinking that it was the distance, but all the rest of you guys are in the lower 48 and still having identical problems. Yesterday I played Blackjack. 3 hands in, I bet and it froze. Took my $50.

again, the casino relies heavily on the AJAX technology i mentioned previously, as does quick reply and other functionality. I fear that it is either vB's implementation of AJAX that is causing issues, or the server that ei is hosted on (which i do not control)

so, can we see about reducing the AJAX requests/dependencies any? I realize that could be ditching the casino, but perhaps migrating to other means of quick reply etc it will alleviate some of this BS. The ultimate solution would be to switch from VB altogether, if that's an option?

i have no issues w/ the AJAX portions of the site i use (quick reply, multiquote, inline edit, etc). shoulda just stayed away from the casino to begin with it seems. didn't have all you bitching until i installed it :p

Here's the thing though...it's more likely duplicated with leaving the SAME IE window open throughout the day - if you use it, then close it, then reopen IE again - you probably WON'T notice it. That's what I've begun to do, and it's helped some.

The other day, I opened up EI and the first reply I tried to post locked up. I closed it out, brought it up again, got one post in, tried a second and it locked up again. Repeat the process, over and over......
Today though hasn't locked up once. I used the casino a little bit and that ran fine too.

AJAX relies on javascript. adblockers and various malware / antispyware programs will block javascript calls. i have a blocker on my computer, but put ei.com on the safe list so it ignores all the JS on this site. maybe that is the root of y'all's problems.

I clicked on this thread just now, read to the bottom, clicked reply to your post and - nothing - the banner just waves and it sits there. I have no adware blockers. My Spybot S&D only works when I turn it on. So I have nothing that should impede its performance. Current JS also.

I clicked the "quote" botton to include your comment. I've gotten used to copy/ paste on anything I put in the reply box so when it freezes, I just close/open/locate thread/paste. It then goes in.
Just went to vote for ROTM.....nothing. heard the click, but the banner sat still. Clicked it again, banner moves but the page just sits there. Lasted nearly 3-4 mins. before I gave up and closed/re-opened.
Also just did it again trying to post this on here.

what you guys are experiencing actually has nothing to do w/ ajax as those aren't even JS'd functions. That's a form click. therefore it's an issue w/ your connection to this site. (one way or another) period.
