View Full Version : [SOLVED] Roaming Idle

So Thursday I took the throttle body off and gave it a good cleaning. When I did my Typhoon CAI came apart at the bottom where the piping travels through the stock airbox. Leave it to me to turn a simple 15 minute job into an hour plus fiasco. I was able to get it back together without removing the wheel anyway.
Anyway, I got it all put back together eventually, minus the screw that mounts the Typhoon to the stock airbox. I could not get it to line up correctly. I fired up the car and the idle was strong and steady. Same thing on the drive to work this morning. The real test will be at lunch after my car has been sitting in the hot sun and I crank the AC. That's when the problems seemed to be the worse.
I will probably end up taking the wheel off and redoing the CAI install. I think I got it on there pretty tight but I'm paranoid, especially with the screw that braces the top part of the CAI to the airbox not being installed.
I'll report back after lunch with how the idle is.

so you cleaned the TB to try and resolve your idle issues?

Yes. I searched some threads over at RLF and saw a lot of people with the same issue that cleaned the TB and it fixed it so I figured I'd give it a shot. Just hit 30k miles so it needed it anyway. So far so good, but like I said, the real test will be today at lunch time.

I just made some slight changes to increase the idle in HPT I haven't had any issues since. Maybe that can help too.

for the record and some reassurance...after the clutch fiasco, my stock airbox is no longer there, so the CAI is not mounted to anything except the washer fluid tank in the wheel well.
No issues...

That's cool. I'm also worried about where it came apart at the bottom. I'll just check it every now and again I guess.

If the issue returns that will be my next step.

It seems that cleaning the TB has indeed solved my roaming idle problem. I fired up the car with the AC blasting and the idle was steady. Every time before it would have been jumping up and down and sometimes stalling.
